Project Updates Around the District

Construction Project at Northbrook Sports Center Pool

Project start date: August 15, 2016
Anticipated completion: June, 2017

The Northbrook Park District is excited to announce a new pool will be opening next summer at the Northbrook Sports Center, replacing the 50 year old pool. The District anticipates construction on the site through early June, 2017. This project will impact parking on the east side of the Sports Center building. Parking will be blocked off until June, 2017, on the east side of the parking lot. Patrons will need to park on the south side of the building.

For the safety of all our patrons, contractors and staff, please drive slowly in the Sports Center parking lot and obey all posted signs.

We will provide any necessary updates throughout the project. Thank you for your cooperation.

Improving Community Spaces

Project: New Bocce Ball at Indian Ridge Park
The District installed two new Bocce Ball courts this fall at Indian Ridge Park. The courts are be located near the Leisure Center and Senior Center.

Project: Memorial Garden at Village Green Park
This fall the District redesigned Memorial Garden, an area on the northeast corner of Village Green Park located in downtown Northbrook.  The new layout includes significant landscaping, pathway improvements, several new trees including Japanese Lilac and Whitespire Birch, and two new benches.  Memorial Garden is a tribute to all the Northbrook men and women who have served in the Armed Forces.  It was originally dedicated on October 15, 1972, in partnership with the Northbrook Garden Club.

Prescribed Burns at the District

The District occasionally conducts a prescribed burn. The purpose of the burn is to improve the native plant community by reducing non-native shrubs and weeds that invade the natural area and degrade the ecosystem. Burning is a technique widely used for the restoration and management of wetlands, woodlands and prairies throughout the Midwest.
