Visitors of all ages can enjoy a range of activities at this park just west and behind the Northbrook Sports Center. Tennis courts, seasonal soccer fields, sand volleyball courts, three ball fields and two playgrounds with climbing, sliding and swinging apparatus are available. The Sports Center Pool offers a zero-depth area with interactive water toys, a large open water swim area, two drop slides, a diving board and locker rooms. Indoors, the Sports Center contains two year-round NHL-sized ice rinks, rental facilities, a pro shop for figure and hockey skaters, a concession stand and dance rooms. The Center offers public skating sessions and hosts special events throughout the year.

The Park District purchased the property on October 28, 1965 from Catherine L. Melzer for $201,708 and built one ice rink and an outdoor swimming pool in 1968, along with the ball fields. A second rink was added in 1973. Several Northbrook skaters participated in the 1972 Olympics, one in 1976 and another two in 1988, giving Northbrook recognition as “Speed Skating Capital of the World.” In 1999, a park renovation coincided with a major renovation of the Sports Center to update the rinks and pool.
