Visitors of all ages can enjoy a range of activities at West Park, conveniently located behind the Northbrook Sports Center. The park boasts seasonal soccer fields, two sand volleyball courts, three baseball fields and two playgrounds with climbing structures, slides and swings.

History

The Park District purchased the West Park property on October 28, 1965 from Catherine L. Melzer for $201,708, building one ice rink, an outdoor swimming pool and ball fields in 1968. A second rink was added in 1973. Several Northbrook skaters participated in the 1972 Olympics—one in 1976 and two more in 1988—giving Northbrook recognition as the “Speed Skating Capital of the World.” In 1999, a park renovation coincided with a major renovation of the Sports Center to update both the rinks and pool.

In 2017, the new Sports Center Pool began providing greater programming flexibility and enjoyment for all ages, maximizing service to the entire community. The facility includes a 25-yard pool with six lanes, a leisure pool, a vortex pool, zero-depth entry, two diving boards, a deep water diving pool with a drop slide and a climbing wall.
