Come to an open house February 29 to find out about the myriad summer camp options offered by the Northbrook Park District. Families can meet summer camp supervisors and managers to talk about camps focused on arts, sports, STEM, figure skating, dance, theater and more. There will be guided arts and crafts activities for children, so the adults have a chance to obtain information and ask questions. Refreshments will be provided.
Start warming up for spring and summer — and take advantage of early savings — by purchasing pool passes, registering for summer camps and sports leagues, getting theater tickets and planning to attend special family events, all courtesy of the Northbrook Park District.
The Northbrook Park District is delighted to announce it was awarded a $600,000 grant for the renovation of Meadowhill Aquatic Center, a popular summer destination for the community at large. The award of the grant is a testament to the collective dedication of the park district’s exceptional team, Executive Director Chris Leiner said.
The Northbrook Park District is thrilled to have been awarded $2.8 million in state grant funding for a renovation project that will help transform the multigenerational recreation space inside the Leisure Center. The 40,000-square-foot facility serves as the headquarters for recreation programs for children and adults in Northbrook, hosting Sunshine Preschool, the Senior Center and the Northbrook Theatre.
Whether they are into arts, sports, STEM, figure skating, dance or theater, children and teens can have a fabulous, enriching summer by participating in the wide array of camps and workshops offered by the Northbrook Park District. Summer camp programming runs June through August at park district facilities and local schools with activities in parks, playgrounds and swimming pools, as well as field trip opportunities.
“Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Rock Experience,” based on the picture book by the popular cartoonist and children’s author Mo Willems, runs January 27 to February 11. The show tells the story of the endearing mole rat Wilbur, who discovers he’d much rather wear stylish clothing than run around naked like all his buddies. The audience’s suggested age is 3 and up.
Northbrook Park District continues to monitor weather and utility conditions closely to determine facility and program availability. Affiliate programming and rentals are running on a case-by-case basis. Check with your organization contact for additional information. For the past three years, Andrew Landau and his 8-year-old daughter Nora have looked forward to putting on their fancy clothes and boogieing the night away at the annual dance. This year, the father-and-daughter duo again will be among families making joyful, fun-filled memories at the Light Up the Night Family Dance. Previously known as the Daddy-Daughter Dance, the heartwarming event has been a community favorite for years. The name change reflects the park district’s desire to be inclusive and ensure all families feel welcome.
Northbrook Park District continues to monitor weather and utility conditions closely to determine facility and program availability. Most registered programs have been canceled through 4pm on Friday, January 12. Programs and facilities will be assessed at 2pm for afternoon and evening programming.
Families interested in enrolling their children in the Northbrook Park District’s Sunshine Preschool are invited to attend an open house January 18. At the open house, prospective families will have a chance to meet the teachers, experience the preschool classrooms and ask questions about registering for the 2024-2025 school year.
