Running the Northbrook Park District’s scenic Liberty Loop & Lap on the Fourth of July has become an annual tradition for the Schmidt family, children and adults included. The event on July 4 features a certified Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk and a 1-mile Liberty Lap Fun Run, both starting and ending at Techny Prairie Park and Fields in Northbrook.

The Northbrook Park District is partnering with the nonprofit Wright-Way Rescue to host “Pup-Lick Skate,” a special public skate and puppy adoption event on Saturday, June 29. Representatives of Wright-Way Rescue will be on site with puppies available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the pool entrance at Northbrook Sports Center.

Whether you’ve never taken a swing, want to host a unique event or practice with teammates, the Northbrook Park District’s batting cages are the best place to hit a baseball this summer. The facility at Techny Prairie Park and Fields features six batting cages with machines that pitch baseballs. Four of the machines can also pitch 12-inch softballs.

The Northbrook Park District’s free concert series “Tuesdays in the Park,” which every summer draws thousands of spectators, will be back starting next week with a spectacular lineup of musical entertainment sure to please the whole family. Each Tuesday concert will begin with entertainment for the little ones followed by a performance for all ages. All performances take place at Village Green Park, at Shermer and Meadow roads in downtown Northbrook.

The Grapes on the Green adults-only event will be back next month in downtown Northbrook. The event will be held on June 15 at Village Green Park in partnership between the Northbrook Park District and the Village of Northbrook. Attendees can enjoy wine tastings, live music, a caricature artist, wine trivia, a painting activity and free prize drawings.

The Northbrook community is invited to share its thoughts about potential improvements to West Park, a 24-acre park located behind the Northbrook Sports Center. Attend a community meeting on May 30 in the Community Room of the Northbrook Sports Center. The meeting will include focused questions, brainstorming, discussion and identification of preferences.

The Northbrook Park District’s upcoming Safety Town program will give children ages 4 to 6 the opportunity to learn about safety, whether on a bus, bicycle, at the pool or around the house. Each day of the program will feature a different topic. The program runs 10am-12pm, Tuesday through Friday, starting next week and ending May 31 (no class on Memorial Day).

Grab your fishing rod and get ready for the free Kids’ Fishing Derby on Saturday, one of the most popular family activities offered by the Northbrook Park District. The free event at picturesque Lake Shermerville at Wood Oaks Green Park typically attracts about 300 children ranging from little ones to teenagers.

The Northbrook Park District is excited to invite the community to enjoy theater performances of the beloved classic musical “Fiddler on the Roof” next week. The production by Northbrook Community Theatre features a cast of more than 30 actors, ranging from children to older adults. Performances will take place May 17-19 at Northbrook Theatre.
