We are committed to providing a variety of active learning opportunities that promote teamwork, friendship and fun. Through individual successes and team activities, campers develop a stronger sense of self-confidence, while creating memories that can last a lifetime.

Northbrook Park District offers half-day, full-day and one-week camps to fill your child’s summer. The choices don’t stop there: payment plans, extended care and a lunch program from Kiddos Catering are also available.

Camp groups are formed by age, school and/or ability. Friendship requests are not available; children in the same camp will have the opportunity to be with their friends in other groups throughout the day.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Early fee deadline is March 6 to save 10% on most camps!

Safety is the number one priority of the Northbrook Park District. Campers are supervised by counselors the entire time they are visiting our pools. All campers receive a basic swim test in the diving well on their first visit to our pools; swim skills are evaluated, and children receive a colored wristband to indicate the level of clearance they have at the pool.

Aquatic and camp staff work together to enforce the following wristband levels:

  • Red (non-swimmer) Children’s Play Area
  • Green (swimmer All areas of the pool where they meet height requirements

If you want your child to receive a red wristband, contact the Camp Supervisor to let them know. A green wristband does not mean that children can use the slides. Campers who have passed the swim test will be measured and must be at least 48″ tall to use the slides.

All Pool Managers and Lifeguards are certified by StarGuard® or StarGuard ELITE before being allowed to guard. Certifications are through Starfish Aquatics Institute, which has developed a risk management system and competency-based training program used by aquatic facilities around the world. Additional training includes skills reviews, in-services and scenarios before and during the summer.

In addition, several staff members hold CPO (Certified Pool Operator) or AFO (Aquatic Facility Operator) Licenses. The national certification demonstrates that pool operators have completed the required education and training for proper facility and staff management and signifies our commitment to providing the highest level of service and professional excellence.

Most camps have camp on Juneteenth, however, school sites will not be available. Campers will be on site at a Park District location enjoying Field Day activities on that date.

Beyond the Bell does not meet on July 5 or Juneteenth.

Payment plans can be done at time of online registration. All balances must be paid by the start of the program.

Residents who meet the criteria can receive financial assistance. Contact Melanie Alexander at 847-291-2995.

Camp groups are formed by age, school and/or ability; children in the same camp will have the opportunity to be with their friends in other groups throughout the day.

The Park District partners with NSSRA (Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association) to provide inclusion support to participants who need assistance with special needs. Participants requesting support should check the ADA box on the registration form. You do not need a diagnosis to request support.

Parent Orientation was held virtually on Tuesday, June 4 from 6:30-7:30pm. A link to access was emailed to those registered 24 hours before the orientation began. A recording is available to view for those who were unable to attend.

Camp Open Houses are planned for our 3-5 and 5-7 year old camps. Families can come any time within the scheduled site visit timeframe. Dates for these Open Houses will be shared with registered families.

The Camp Parent Handbook and detailed information will be posted on our website in mid-may and provided to parents at Parent Orientation.

Camp Site Directors are chosen for their maturity and experience working with children. All Directors have CPR/AED Certification. Site Directors report to Recreation Supervisors.

Our Site Directors receive director training, in addition to all-staff training sessions. Many of our Site Directors are returning staff, teachers/teaching assistants, and/or Adventure Campus Year-Round Site Director staff.

Camp Site Directors and Counselors receive extensive Northbrook Park District training, which covers safety, leadership, mandated reporting, behavior management, developmentally appropriate activities, diversity, learning through cooperative play, field trips, bussing, pool and sunscreen safety training.

The Northbrook Park District strives to maintain the following staff-camper ratios*:

  • 1:6 ratio for 3-5 year old camps
  • 1:8 ratio for 5-7 year old camps
  • 1:10 ratio for 8-14 year old camps

*Camps with wider age ranges will be staffed accordingly.
